How I Was Called to the Mission Field
We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here is my story…
Ever since I was saved, I’ve felt a pull towards the mission field. Two years ago, God gave me the opportunity to combine my love for him and for the Hispanic people into one trip – a mission trip to Guatemala. I went with my home church, and it was an amazing experience. In fact, it changed my life. From then on I knew that I wanted to return to Guatemala and do mission work. However, my heart was heavy because I felt trapped by college. I knew I wouldn’t be able to return until I finished my time in school. I longed to be back in Guatemala, and I prayed constantly that God would give me an opportunity to return.
Last fall, I began to look for mission trips for this summer. I wanted to go back to Guatemala, but everything seemed against that. Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Chile – sure! But no Guatemala. After praying about it, I quickly realized that my calling isn’t just to Guatemala – it’s to all the world. I accepted the fact that I might not go back to GT this summer, but as I searched through trips, I never could find one that fit. I began to wonder if my desire to go on another mission trip was my own fabrication instead of God’s will. My prayer was that God would conform my will to His and make His desires my own. As I continued to look for trips, I remembered that a friend of mine had highly recommended AIM. I found this website and immediately spotted the Central American Expedition. It was perfect! I knew that this was the trip God had for me.
God really is faithful, and He has continued to affirm that in my life. I cannot wait to return to the country and the culture that captured my heart two years ago!
